Welcome to Week 1 of VIM Fit Fest, a virtual wellness experience celebrating Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) Clinic’s 25th Anniversary!

VIM Clinic has partnered with the City of Stuart and local businesses to bring VIM Fit Fest to our community. Each week we will showcase one of the city’s beautiful parks and feature some of our community’s best trainers. The trainers will show you a quick set of exercises to help you improve your strength, flexibility, and endurance. We are so happy you will be joining us on this wellness journey to give yourself the gift of health.

This week we are at Shepard Park. This pretty park is located just south of the Roosevelt Bridge on the St. Lucie River. It’s got a boat ramp, walking path along the river, gorgeous views of the bridge, picnic pavilions, a playground, and it is within walking distance of historic downtown Stuart. Don’t miss this dynamite spot for sunsets.

Our Week 1 Wellness Challenge is led by the amazing Amanda Michel with Whole Body Performance & Fitness. Amanda demonstrates three moves to rev up your workout and get those muscles strong. Amanda uses a picnic table for some fun variety, but these exercises can be done anywhere. If working out at home, be sure your bench or chair is on a non-skid surface or securely against a wall to prevent slipping.

The first move is a combination push up and tricep dip. This exercise works your shoulders, chest, and bicep and tricep muscles in your upper arms. Start with 5 repetitions of each exercise and work your way up to 10.

The second move is mountain climbers and it works your whole body and gets your heart rate up. Start with 30 seconds and work your way up to a minute or more. The idea is to get your heart pumping.

The final exercise is the side squats. Using a bench or step engages more muscles than a regular squat. Start with 5 reps on each side and work your way up to 10. Perform this block exercises three times for a great full body workout.
