Francis “Frank” J. Kleeman, MD, FACS, is a talented physician who has dedicated much of his career to helping those in need. He also has a sharp wit and, despite an Ivy League education and a well-respected career in medicine, does not take himself too seriously.

Dr. Kleeman has been a volunteer urologist at VIM Clinic for over 14 years. He was no stranger to providing health care to the needy when he joined us, as he started a similar free clinic in 1992 in Biddeford, Maine, that he ran for 22 years. In addition to his work at VIM Clinic, he volunteers with the American Red Cross, assisting people who have house fires and need medical equipment or medications.

Medical Director, Dr. Bromberg, related this quote from Sir William Osler (the father of medical education) to describe Dr. Kleeman. “The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.” According to Dr. Bromberg, “There is no better way to describe Frank. Throughout his career, he epitomized all that one could ask for in a physician and humanitarian.”

We are proud to have yet another one of our volunteer providers win the annual Sage Award in Health Science & Medicine. The award ceremony was held at Piper’s Landing Yacht and Country Club on March 22, 2023. Congratulations, Dr. Kleeman!
