Welcome to Week 6 of VIM Fit Fest, a virtual wellness experience celebrating Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) Clinic’s 25th Anniversary! This week we are visiting Smith-Turner Park with Joanie Moore, yoga teacher with the Yoga Center of Stuart. After a couple of weeks of advanced challenges, Joanie will share gentle stretches to increase flexibility and ease soreness.

Smith-Turner Park is a beautiful park on Martin Luther King Blvd that honors two local hometown heroes that gave their lives during the Vietnam War. In 2014, the park was rejuvenated and named for PFC Richard Smith Jr. and PFC Lawrence Frank Turner who were both from the East Stuart community. The park’s large pond is home to ducks and other wildlife and includes a short walking trail and viewing docks over the pond.

For Week 6 we are joined again by Joanie Moore who demonstrates variations of a spinal twist in a seated, standing, and supine position. Stretching your spine is especially important to ensure the spine retains its natural range of motion. It also helps to massage internal organs and stimulate circulation. These stretches are easy to do and feel great, too.

Thank you for joining us at Smith-Turner Park for this relaxing program. Share your progress with the hashtag #vimfitfest and #stuartflparks and post on your favorite social media sites. If you don’t do social media, no worries! Simply send us an email to [email protected] and tell us how you’re doing with your wellness journey.
