VIM Clinic is able to offer many specialty services from community practitioners who support our mission. Because the demand for health care services continues to grow, we could always use more help.
If you’re an active or retired physician, specialist, nurse, nurse practitioner, medical assistant or a student in the medical field who’s interested in joining our family of volunteers, here is what you can expect:
You Will Be Rewarded
VIM Clinic is a very special place. We provide a warm and friendly atmosphere where you can keep your skills fresh. It will be satisfying work as well. You’ll get the time you need for each appointment and patients aren’t kept waiting. Some of our patients have gone untreated for years. You’ll track their progress and get to know them. They’ll be among the most rewarding – and grateful – patients you’ll ever treat.
You Will Be Educated
You’ll get continuing medical education credits that will count toward the 40 you need every two years to keep your license active. You can give as little 2 ½ days a month for primary care, or once a month for specialty care. Also, we are a teaching facility. We get many out-of-state students, but most come from the Florida State University College of Medicine, the University of Florida College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University, Indian River State College and Keiser University. Our third-year medical students do a yearlong rotation with us. They benefit enormously from working with a wide variety of patient cases and with volunteer physicians who provide a vast wealth of experience.
You Will Be Challenged – and Protected
Because we have patients who have not been treated in many years, you can expect some complex, challenging cases. Your work will be invigorating and your skills will be stretched. You’ll have an enormous impact on patients’ lives. We guarantee it. Because VIM Clinic is a free-standing, not-for-profit organization that provides care to the indigent, our volunteers are immune from medical malpractice under the state’s Volunteer Health Care Provider Program. Even if you don’t work with us directly, signing the form protects you should you you see one of our patients in the ER or elsewhere in the system.
You Will Be Part of a Team
You will work with people who are here because they want to be. We have a very small paid staff. Everyone else is a volunteer. They’re all here for the same reasons: to give back to the community, make a difference in people’s lives, have some fun, and to be part of something very special.
